Ahh Tenchi... the other series (so far) I discovered purely by accident! ^_^ I had seen the ads on Cartoon Network when Toonami was going to introduce Tenchi to the lineup, but it didn't mean much to me at the time. Fast forward a couple of months when the show ended up on the Midnight Run lineup. With nothing else to watch one particular night, I happen across the show, and decide to park the remote to watch. And what a show to discover! First of all, this is one of those rare cases where the dub is actually *good*.. I mean, the voice acting, the continuity of the script, everything was great! And later when I got the DVDs to watch the original Japanese, I would find that the script was not completely botched up in the translation! Even the english voice actors and actresses had similar voices to the original seiyuu! A rare gem, I expect... Conversely, Gundam Wing, with all its accuracy in the translation, falls flat where voice acting is concerned, IMO. And there is the well documented mixed bag of the Sailor Moon translations... some good voice acting, some not; some good translating, and some unspeakable rewrites! This is why we always prefer subtitled anime in its native Japanese language! (But Tenchi is acceptable in either language, ironically) ^_^
Anyway, what drew me to this series initially was the characters. With further watching, the story and music fell into place to make this series, for me, a keeper... |

There will be another OVA and TV series! The new series will be released in Japan sometime during 2002... "Tenchi Muyo GXP" followed by the 3rd OVA. Here is a link to AIC's site with an interview with Tenchi co-creator Kajishima Masaki about the new series! |

Tenchi Muyo!
Where does anyone possibly begin in describing Tenchi? ^_^ For starters, there are no less than three alternate universes that the show exists in, none of which are related to the others, and on top of that, there are two spinoff series also completely unrelated! (Magical Girl Pretty Sammy and Magical Project S.) Add to this 3 movies that exist in their own timelines, and you've got one many-branched (Jurai) tree! That out of the way, all that I've personally seen in the world of Tenchi so far are "Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki" (the original OVAs), "Tenchi Universe", and bits of "Shin Tenchi Muyo!" (Tenchi In Tokyo), as well as the three movies. The basic story is this... Masaki Tenchi, your everyday average high school boy, has his life turned upside down when 5 (or 6, depending on the series) unlikely houseguests find their way into Tenchi's backyard by complete, or near complete, coincidence. And that's the easy part! In the near future I will add a section taking my own stab at the many storylines in Tenchi Muyo! It's that involved. ^_^ But for now, enjoy at your leisure the several Tenchi goodies below... |
