The only downside to this series is that it's too short!

Plot Summary
Keiichi Morisato is biding his time watching over his college dorm while his housemates are out for the evening. Bored and hungry, he calls for takeout, but instead ends up dialing the Goddess Help Line. Within seconds, a Goddess named Belldandy has entered Keiichi's dorm and offers to grant him any one wish.

The Review
Whether you call it Ah! My Goddess or Oh My Goddess!, it's still the same classic in romantic comedy when you're talking about anime. As good as it is, the one thing working against it is that right when it gets going, it's over.

This five episode OVA has a very simple structure. In the first three episodes, we are introduced to each of the three goddesses. Belldandy comes first, then Urd, and finally Skuld. Once they've had their episode of development, the two-part finale begins. In some ways it's a shame, since this series (drawn from the incredibly long manga, which continues its run to this day) has an incredible amount of potential... but I suppose that's why, some 12 years later, it was finally made into a full-fledged television series! That's another review, though. ;-)

It's a simple story, but a good one. Keiichi enters into a contract with Belldandy with his wish for her to always be by his side, and the Ultimate Force of the heavens comes into play to prevent anything from separating them. Things don't go as they are supposed to though, and there becomes a very real danger of Keiichi and Belldandy being torn apart. The elements are balanced, so neither the comedy nor Keiichi and Belldandy's timid romance overshadow one other. Though very short, it is a complete story arc, and if there were any unresolved parts of the story, I couldn't spot them. This is a series that is, quite literally, short and sweet.
