In Sailor Moon, Luna, guardian cat from the Moon Kingdom, is the one who discovers Usagi and gives her her magical powers. Luna is also Usagi's source of confidence through much of the series, especially early on.

With Sailor Moon being one of my first experiences in anime, when it happened that I was adopting a kitten from the humane society, I decided that if I got a boy, it would be named Artemis, and a girl, Luna. In the end I got a girl kitten, and named her Luna, after the cat in the series.
